How artificial light is wrecking your sleep, and what to do about it

How artificial light is wrecking your sleep, and what to do about it: " Many experts feel that our excessive use of communications technology (e.g. cell phones, laptops, television, etc.) is driving this significant level of sleep deprivation. If this is the case, it’s no wonder so many Americans struggle with poor sleep, since 95% have reported using some type of electronics at least a few nights a week within the hour before bed."

Facebook Punishes Brand Pages, Instagram Goes Direct, G+ Goes Wild | Social You Should Know | Ignite Social Media

Facebook Punishes Brand Pages, Instagram Goes Direct, G+ Goes Wild | Social You Should Know | Ignite Social Media: "Facebook told us last year that we could expect about 16% of our fans, on average, to see a given post of ours organically. That’s been slipping in recent months as Facebook is tweaking its News Feed quite often. But the adjustment that took place at the beginning of this month led to drops in organic reach on brand Pages as high as 88%."

The Future of Social Networks as Interpreted by 21 Social Media Practitioners | Ignite Social Media: "2. Compared to what happened to MySpace, what do you think is the future of Facebook?"

'via Blog this'

Facebook has a strong appeal and enough users to keeps it's value significant for years to come. People (myself included) will lose interest and spend less time on it, so to keep growing it, FB must always seek new people.

Obama's Nebulous Nuclear Sellout Leads to Iran War - Op-Eds - Israel National News

Obama's Nebulous Nuclear Sellout Leads to Iran War - Op-Eds - Israel National News: "Again, the International  Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA) report "that Iran had frozen its nuclear activities" is another diplomatic travesty, "because [Iran] already possesses the necessary infrastructure for building a nuclear weapon."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that "Iran is in dire economic straits and we can negotiate a better deal. Before easing the sanctions, we need to get a good deal, not a bad deal."

And rightly so, because Netanyahu believes that a "bad deal" between global powers and Iran over its nuclear program could lead to war."

Netanyahu: P5+1 Offering Iran 'Enormous Deal' - Middle East - News - Israel National News

Netanyahu: P5+1 Offering Iran 'Enormous Deal' - Middle East - News - Israel National News: "P5+1 powers have offered Iran “an enormous deal” at the talks on Iran's nuclear weapons program, and that the deal would “let out a lot of pressure” while Iran is “practically giving away nothing” and “making a minor concession which could reverse in weeks.”

The deal would endanger the sanctions regime, he said, while Iran would keep every one of its 18,000 centrifuges to enrich uranium. “They're not giving up even one centrifuge,” he stressed."

Arab ‘Price Tag’ Met with Silence - Inside Israel - News - Israel National News: "The graffiti followed the Knesset’s decision to pass a law regarding Bedouin settlement in the Negev. Arab MKs vehemently opposed the plan, which will legalize many pirate Bedouin settlements in the region, due to the fact that it will require some of those who have no proof of ownership of their land to move to alternate land provided by the government."

The Truth About Nocturnal People - Yahoo! Voices - voices.yahoo.com

The Truth About Nocturnal People - Yahoo! Voices - voices.yahoo.com: "Misconceptions About Nocturnals

The biggest misconception about nocturnals is that they are lazy. The assumption is that because they sleep all day, night owls don't get anything done. In fact, most nocturnal people are highly productive. Their minds and bodies are more active and alert at night, and without the distractions of the daytime world, they can easily concentrate on the tasks in front of them and get more done."

Publisher's Response: to a post which can be found at: http://voices.yahoo.com/the-truth-nocturnal-people-183708.html

An excerpt from a website which clearly has published an opinion, with significant scientific  evidence supporting their own personal conclusions. It is interesting, factually based, yet it is not what one would consider absolute truth. I am neither disrespecting the author nor I am condemning the topic.

The one point I would like to make regards how a teenager might react to such a post. A teenager perhaps by definition is already undergoing a paradigm-shift if you will in that is already shaping their world view. With my inclusion of this specific post, I feel I am required to point out that circadian rhythms or cycles are subject to change and dysfunction.

Sleep disorders are rapidly becoming a new social ill, and the effect that late night computer usage has on people in general is well documented and is a significant stumbling for teenagers and adults alike who spend a great deal of time immersing themselves in the anti-social internet web world.

A helpful tool is the Flux app which attempts to normalize the negative influence of the color quality of the light which is emitted from today's laptops and iphone or other smart phone, and tablet devices. It is not a cure yet is rather a helpful solution.

f.lux: software to make your life better

Is your computer keeping you up late? f.lux is free software that warms up your computer display at night, to match your indoor lighting:

The real answer for teenagers is recognizing their their circadian cycles are changing, and while it is difficult to get a teenager to go to sleep at a reasonable time, that even if a compromise solution is reached, say absolute lights and no internet usage after say midnight (better 11pm) then normal sleep cycles can be restored.

“Light In The Darkness” by Aine Belton | Global Love Project

“Light In The Darkness” by Aine Belton | Global Love Project: " shadow in my late teens, and it was then I first realised I may have some repressed anger. I had gotten the message strongly from my mother that anger was not OK to feel or express, as much in the way she behaved herself (never overtly expressing it) as anything she actually said about it.

My anger had been so stuffed down and disowned but was showing up in my first love relationship"
